CCLE LAUNCHES SECOND BATCH FOR FOUNDATION COURSE ON TECHNOLOGY LAW AND POLICY
ABOUT THE COURSE:
The fast-emerging digital tech has led to new-age concerns before the governments. While some of the regulations have been enacted, others are still either in the draft or at the conceptualisation stage. This leads to a phenomenal challenge for business entities and law and policy advisors to mitigate risks with their operations and take decisions. The purpose of this course is to train senior-grade law and policy students and early-stage researchers and consultants to learn the nitty-gritties of technology law and policy in India and understand it from a professional point of view. The participants who will successfully complete the course would be able to advise their clientele to design business operations and make economically-efficient decisions. The course promises to be a great learning experience for in-house counsels and professionals who regularly liaise with policymakers.
ABOUT THE ORGANISATION:
The Centre for Competition Law and Economics (CCLE) is a research organization working in the field of competition law and economics. The Centre publishes research reports, conducts training activities and assists litigating parties at competition fora across the country to advocate consistent interpretation of the Indian competition law. The Centre regularly collaborates with national law universities and other non-profit organizations to organize seminars, conferences and workshops for the relevant stakeholders to generate capacity in the said field based on mutual interest.
DETAILS OF THE COURSE:
The foundational course on Technology Law and Policy is run by the CCLE. The aim of the course is to train working professionals, governmental officials and other interested participants in the field of technology law and policy. There are total five sessions conducted on weekends over a period of month. Each session is of 90 minutes.

The details of the sessions are given below.
1. Introduction to law & technology (90 minutes): This session would give an introductory outlay to the participants as far as the role of law and technology in the economic growth is concerned. The purpose is to acquaint the participants with the objectives of the law, rise of the technology, inherent synchronies and divergences present within, and subsequent intervention by the government to build a consensus.
2. Data Protection (90 minutes): The Indian government has recently enacted the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023. The law is, however, yet to be enforced. In this session, the participants would be taken through the substantive provisions of the law and subsequent impact on the digital economy.
3. Advertisement Technology - ‘AdTech’ (90 minutes): The Big Tech entities’ business model revolves around advertisement revenue. This session would give the participants an insight into the world of ‘AdTech’, applicable supply chain and subsequent regulatory concerns.
4. (Gen) AI (90 minutes): GenAI may contribute up to 7% of the world GDP in the next decade. This leads to an impression that there is a lot of potential to be unlocked in this industry. ‘Regulate, or not to regulate?’ - may be the overarching question to answer. Since, the industry is evolving, the participants would be exposed to various approaches taken by the government to look into this industry and subsequent interventions devised.
5. Regulatory Governance (90 minutes): Regulation of technology may require coordinated approach on the part of the government to intervene. This would effectively mean internal consultation between various regulatory bodies and governmental departments. This session would deal with the consultation mechanism present within the government to regulate tech markets.
